The child actor represented here is not the main character in the play; that role is taken by the man standing behind him wearing loose white silk trousers, playing a young priest.  Unlike the main characters in Noh, child actors never wear masks and are very often the children or grand-children of leading actors making their first steps on the stage in a profession which in Japan is still extremely dynastic.
